Aged Care Menu Reviews
Every season of every year, a dietitian is required to review your menu. We work with your staff to provide a nutritious and enjoyable menu for your residents.
Food and nutrition is an essential part of the wellbeing of your seniors. Frequent menu reviews will help your aged care facility to achieve excellence in quality of care and government accreditation standards.
We work closely with your team to deliver excellence in aged care menu planning.

Your menu review will include:
- a depth of expertise and dedication to aged care
- timely accreditation with NSW based dietitians
- cultural sensitivity to your residents’ dietetic needs
- client-centred, flexible aged care menu planning
- daily minimum core food group servings
- adequate food variety over the full menu cycle
- personalised recommendations listed in priority order for your facility’s implementation
- optional: on-site mealtime analysis and recommendations to improve residents’ mealtime experiences
Menu Review Options
Menu & Mealtime Quality Assessments
— Gold Standard, on-site assessment
This is the dietitian RECOMMENDED option.
This is an on-site visit by an Accredited Practising Dietitian to your Aged Care Home. This will include observations of the meal service, interviews with relevant staff, a comprehensive assessment of the menu (this is the only component included in the ‘Desktop Menu Review’ option), weighing of sample meal components and a review of documentation relevant to food and nutrition care.
This process uses the Aged Care Quality Standards as the framework.
Desktop Menu Review
— conducted remotely with no on-site assessment
A thorough review is conducted by an Accredited Practising Dietitian to ensure your menu is meeting requirements and adhering to current guidelines. This process uses the Aged Care Quality Standards as the framework.
Our team will work with your staff on recommendations to optimise the nutritional compliance of your menus. You will receive a comprehensive Menu Assessment Report after your menus have been analysed remotely.
The Menu Review Process
Step 1
Analysis & Site Visit
We analyse the nutritional value of your current menu to ensure your menu is meeting current Aged Care Standards and Nutrition Guidelines. We will ask relevant staff questions to better understand your menu and the demographic/ individual needs of your residents; as each menu is reviewed to meet your home’s individual needs. The mealtime quality assessment will be conducted (largely through observation) on-site for one day.
Step 2
Receive the Menu Review Report
Get a thorough report highlighting your areas of excellence and advice on improvements.
If you would like a meeting to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of your aged care menu that can easily be arranged, and is encouraged.
Step 3

Refer to our menu recommendations, checklist and corrective action plan to get the best nutritional content out of your menu items.
We encourage you to create a continuous improvement plan specific to the menu, meals, mealtime environment and nutrition care, based on our findings.
